Scrolls signed at the Second Invitational Tournament to Benefit Honor Flight held on September 12, 2009 at Talbot's YMCA reaches Troops in Afghanistan!
George Jackson (top photo to the left) sent his scrolls that were signed at the Second Invitational Benefit Tournament at Talbot's YMCA to Afghanistan. Chief Erin Matthew Rinehart, stationed in Afghanistan, wrote a letter to Mr. Jackson thanking him for the scrolls.
Dear Mr. Jackson,
On behalf of the entire Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), Khost, Afghanistan I would like to sincerely thank you for presenting us with one of your scrolls!! Your dedication to the military is overwhelming and, rest assured, the men and women of our Armed Services appreciate your heart-felt work. The time and effort you put into creating these displays of gratitude is commendable. All Americans should take a page out of your book when it comes to being a Patriot. In addition to your
efforts, the Eastern Shore community should be applauded. We thank them
for taking the time to let us know how much they care. I am lucky to have grown up in such a close-knit, caring environment.
To let you know who this scroll has reached... we are comprised of over 30 Sailors, both Active and Reserve, who form our PRT, several Air Force personnel who handle public affairs, over 13 civilians working for the Army Corps of Engineers, DOS, USAID, USDA, more than 10 Army Reservists working in Civil Affairs, and our Security Force of over 50 National Guardsmen from the 221 Cavalry out of Las Vegas, NV.
As you can see, we run the whole gambit, but we all work as one. Our mission is to guide the Afghans in the restoration of their government, and to oversee their rebuilding of their infrastructure through various projects such as schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, government buildings, and the list goes on.
Although we cannot be home with our loved ones during holidays, reading your scroll definitely makes us feel as if we are a little closer to them.
Again, Mr. Jackson, thank you for the scroll and everything you do to support our military.
Sincerely,
Chief Erin Matthew Rinehart · S1, PRT Khost, Afghanistan
P.S. These are the best pictures I have so far. (I am the guy standing out in front of everyone in the one shot.) We had another person taking pictures but he has not had a chance to download them yet, as soon as he gets back I will forward those as well!

Sensei John Liszewski is promoted to 6th Dan Black Belt
Caroline County Recreation and Parks and the students of the Eastern Sun Karate Club would like to announce the promotion of instructor John Liszewski to 6th Dan Black Belt and of his appointment to the Shotokan Karate Association Board of Directors.
Sensei John was presented his belt on May 11 by his friend and fellow board member John Lovett from Bucks County Pennsylvania where the organization is based. The ceremony was put together by Eastern Sun upper rank students and Black belts with an assist by Sensei Richard Tuneff of Tuneff karate.
Sensei John Lovett and Sensei John Liszewski trained and tested together for their first Black Belts. Sensei John began his Karate training late 1969 under the current head of SKA, Sensei William Hodgkiss. 2010 will be a 40 year milestone of Karate training.
In the early 1970’s, Sensei John moved to the Eastern Shore and began teaching small classes around Talbot County. He settled in at the Talbot YMCA as the first Karate class offered there when Mr. Barton was the director. The classes grew to near 100 on a regular basis during the height of Martial Arts popularity. Many black belts were awarded from that class.
Eleven years later, Sensei John was transferred to Connecticut with Black and Decker. He and his wife Terry trained with a JKA Shotokan Club in Wallingford and attended a few JKA (Japan Karate Association) camps.
Sensei John returned to the Eastern Shore 8 years later 1993 and took over classes at Recreation and Parks when the then current instructors, Jack Gehring and Randy Tucker were leaving to peruse other opportunities.
Now in its 16th year, Eastern Sun Karate and associated clubs, Talbot Shotokan Karate and Preston Shotokan, have enough students to hold their own inter club invitational tournaments. The second benefit tournament was held on September 12th at the Talbot YMCA to benefit Honor Flight. www.honorflight.org The next benefit tournament will be held in February, 2010.
Congratulations Sensei Liszewski from your students and friends and the staff at
Recreation and Parks.
